What you said about peace really resonated with me. I have learned that I can have God's peace in the midst of suffering but I can't have his peace when I'm imagining myself going through imaginary suffering. I used to think I could prepare myself for the future by trying to convince myself I would respond faithfully tomorrow, but in reality I can only respond faithfully right in this one moment called today. His word is a lamp unto our feet, and through it we can know the peace that passes understanding. But we can't store it up... the peace that comes through knowing him is like manna in this respect. Each day has enough trouble of its own. I remember once when my husband was in another country and some terrible things were happening overseas and I wondered if the anxiety I felt was the Holy Spirit preparing me to get some really bad news and I heard God is clearly as I have ever heard him. He told me that he would never ask me to worry about tomorrow. I have clung to that. I have walked through difficulty since then, but I haven't made that difficulty worse by worrying about it beforehand. This distinction might seem small but it has been life-changing for me. Thank you for the great question, Rachel, and thank you for the great answers, Kerri!
Just what I needed ❤️
