It's always fascinating to me to hear outright (or observe from afar) how women's lives and choices are often affected by their own mother's. There's really a wide spectrum! Between personalities, education, family situations, personal desires, and financial, philosophical, spiritual factors....there's a lot that affected our own parents. What gets embraced or changed to various degrees in the generation after is something I find intriguing. So I'm glad she mentioned that part of her own story.
Yes! I think the impact of family of origin culture (explicit or implicit) often weighs more than we think, and it's an important thing to hold up to the light in discernment and ask if it serves us well. The narratives we imbibe in our childhood have lasting effects - for better and worse.
Thanks for reading Haley! It's true, I think we are all reacting to our upbringing in so many ways. Either we are replicating or correcting (and sometimes overcorrecting) and its a constant dance between extremes. I definitely wanted to bring up my own background because its impossible to view the choices I've made without the context of my own family of origin. It's also why I truly believe there are very few objectively correct choices - only the choices that suit your particular family with your very unique needs, desires, rhythms etc.
