“I would like to x, but I haven’t managed to do it. I just need to try harder. Premise: Not trying hard enough is the only reason things are not accomplished.”
I know better. I tell this to people all the time. But when it comes to my own to do list I often fall into the “try harder” trap.
I’ve been musing a lot lately on how when we tell ourselves something, it’s not the same as hearing *the very same thing* from someone else, and how maybe that’s one indication of the fact that we really are designed for community! Because as much as I really do try (sometimes with success) to put things I write about into practice, it still helps me immensely when someone says them to me.
